About Archer Music Instruction

Archer Music Instruction is family-owned and operated in Norfolk, VA. Since opening in 2006, we've treated every customer like they were a part of our family. Other companies may offer similar services, but our services come with a guarantee of  a quality music education and integrity.

Steve Archer has been a fixture on the Hampton Roads music scene for over 30 years. Born and raised in Norfolk, Virginia.
Steve started playing professionally while still in High School, and touring with much more mature musicians which instilled a sense of professionalism and a healthy work ethic, along with a strong foundation of R&B and Soul Music, at an early age with the R & B group 35th Street Gang, appearing onstage with The Drifters, Sam and Dave, and Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs, also, backing up 60’s artist Lenis Guess, and renowned beach music group, The Original Showmen.

 Performed and recorded with the national artist, The States. Beginning in the 80”s Steve joined on of the areas most successful acts of the late 70’s and early 80”s. The States, appearing on their last recorded effort. From there he formed one of Hampton Roads most popular bands from the mid to late 80’s in Wild Kingdom, including appearances on MTV, sharing the stage with such 80’s greats as Culture Club, Squeeze, Til Tuesday, the Smithereens, The Bodeens, Modern English, The Bus Boys among others and touring up and down the East coast college an University circuit During this period he was voted best drummer in Hampton Roads musician polls two years in a row. It was then that he started to try his hand at music instruction, laying down the foundation for what was to come.

 After Wild Kingdom Archer teamed up with childhood friends to form what would become one of the areas finest classic Rock/ Southern Rock band The Blue Lords, with whom he presently plays. The Blue Lords have had the opportunity to share the stage with some of the biggest names in Rock N Roll such as as ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Doobie Brothers, Peter Frampton, Charlie Daniels band, 38 Special, Kansas, The Outlaws, Blue Oyster Cult, Steppenwolf, Jefferson Starship, Edgar Winter, and others.
In addition, Blue Lords song “Walk the Walk” was featured in the independent film Sweet Good Fortune”. In 2013 the Blue Lords were invited to appear on the Royal Carribeans and NAHA  Rock Legends Cruise II. Joining such artists Foreigner, Paul Rodgers, Creedence Clearwater among others. 

In August 2013 Steve was invited to play drums with recording artists Sea of Souls. Making their triumphant return to the state at the Norva theatre in September.
After leaving Blue Lords Band  and  the Sea of Souls in October 2015, launched Steve Archer Band, in July of 2016  

He has also performed with, National rap artist Ton Loc, Christian Contemporary artists, John and Marie Barnett and many others.
Has appeared on recordings by local artists, Karen McDine, Brad Street, and performed and recorded with the groups Nylon and Butter. 
For the past 13 years he has devoted himself to working with young people, teaching drums and percussion, guitar and bass guitar at the Lakewood Dance and Music Center for the City of Norfolk and being Director of the School of Rock Summer Camp for Norfolk Academy Summer Programs for the past 9 seasons. Music Director for Norfolk School of Rock for 2010-2012. In summer 2013 brought his talents to Norfolk Collegiate School with a  summer program entitled Steve Archer presents “Collegiate Rocks”! 

Steve has helped over 300 young people discover their inner” Rock star”, along with over 25 Rocking concerts to his credit. He has also been instrumental in the musical direction and consultation of such young artists and bands as, Grant Austin Taylor, Carbon Jam, Zig-Zag, Rellen, and Oddyysey among others in the Hampton Roads area.  


Long admired as a dynamic and passionate performer, has collected legions of fans with his no holds barred approach to Rock n Roll and puts forth the same passion for teaching as his love of music and performance. He wants to make sure to pass along his knowledge and experience for the next generation of rockers.

Sandy Archer has a vast background in administration of entertainment events, homecomings, dance performances, and organizing benefits for people in need. Leadership in many volunteer roles and professional status.  After joining forces with Steve Archer has been sole administrator for websites, merchandising, events and Facebook outreach for Archer Music Instruction. Merchandising for the Steve Archer Band.
